Introduction |
The Special Education program at Adelphi prepares exemplary educational professionals dedicated to helping children with a diverse range of abilities and disabilities reach their fullest potential. At the core of our teaching philosophy is the commitment to uphold the dignity of every child and to create a climate in which all children and families are valued and respected.
Our goal is to provide teachers with the skills that meet the unique needs of children and enhance their quality of life. While some children require specialized services, we train teachers to work in inclusive settings and regular classrooms that encourage children to become as independent as possible and to integrate them into a broad spectrum of activities.
Through multidisciplinary course work and field-based study, students receive training that connects theory with the realities of today's educational experience. Candidates will develop competency in all the program-specific professional standards set forth by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
