About the School of Education| At a Glance

The Ruth S. Ammon School of Education is dedicated to providing students with the skills and techniques necessary to meet the challenges of teaching in a complex, multicultural society. The School's innovative curriculum combines liberal arts and sciences with professional training and community service to provide a firm foundation for teachers and professionals in related fields.

Students get invaluable experience through partnerships with local schools and programs at Adelphi's Child Activity Center, the Center for Literacy Studies and the Hy Weinberg Center for Communication.

The School offers accelerated programs and flexible schedules, including day and evening classes.

Locations
Courses are offered at three convenient locations:
image: Garden City Campus Garden City Campus
Located near Long Island's parks and beaches, the 75-acre Garden City campus is only 45 minutes from New York City and features state-of-the-art, Web-capable classrooms and computer labs.

image: Manhattan Center Manhattan Center
The Manhattan Center is located at 75 Varick Street, Second Floor, New York, NY, at the intersection of Varick and Canal Streets. Classes are conveniently scheduled in the evening or on weekends to accommodate time-pressed working students.

Departments
The School is organized into three major departments with a focus on specific concentrations including:
Scholars Teachers Education Program
The Scholars Teachers Education Program (STEP) is a five-year combined bachelor's/master's degree program for teaching at childhood and adolescent levels.


Flexible and Convenient Scheduling
To accommodate the needs of students, the School offers accelerated semesters and day, evening, and weekend classes throughout the year.


The Cohort Format
Students are assigned to a core group to encourage the sharing of ideas and experiences and to provide mutual support throughout their course of study.


Valuable Practical Experience and Clinical Training
Academic courses are supplemented by mentoring and community service programs that enhance learning and foster close relationships with the greater Adelphi community.


Institutes and Centers
Specialized training is available through programs at the Child Activity Center, the Center for Literacy Studies, and the Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders.


School and Community Partnerships
Students have the opportunity for teaching internships through Adelphi's ongoing partnerships with local school districts and health care institutions.
