Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association

The Long Island Speech-Language -Hearing Association Doctoral Award is a competitive and prestigious honor awarded to the best in speech and language hearing. Adelphi’s Joe Hoffman is the 2011 recipient of the LISHA Doctoral Award.

When asked about how the LISHA award will impact his life, Hoffman said, “This award has helped demonstrate the worth of all of the opportunities that I have had. It is not only a great honor, but the award will aid me in the near future with my research.”

Hoffman also credited Communication Sciences and Disorders, Professor Khamis-dakwar with supporting him through his education. “I would not have received the LISHA Doctoral Award without the support and guidance of Professor Khamis-dakwar over the past few years.”

Professor Khamis-dakwar is ecstatic over the news of Hoffman’s award. She said, “Joe developed a very interesting dissertation proposal addressing difficulties in vocabulary development in children with diabetes who are dependent on insulin treatment using electroencephalogram(EEG) . I am so delighted that LISHA acknowledged the uniqueness and importance of the work he will be doing in the lab by selecting him for this award.”
