Teaching Effectiveness and Impact on Learners

The Ruth S. Ammon School of Education is proud of our alumni teachers’ work in P-12 classrooms. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our alumni teachers and the positive impact they have on P-12 learning, Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) data from the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) will be used as evidence. In November 2017, John D’Agati, Deputy Commissioner of the NYSED Office of Higher Education, released a memo informing Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) that NYSED will provide the APPR ratings for teachers employed in New York State public schools for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years; data will be disaggregated by EPP. However, no timeline was provided for the release of this data.

While waiting for this data to be released, the school has been proactive in requesting data from two additional sources. Formal data requests have been submitted to the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) and the Nassau County Board of Cooperative Education Services (BOCES). In addition, the school has an active teacher education alumni network and plans to conduct case studies on a sample of recent alumni teachers in order to obtain APPR data directly.
