Students may pursue a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education leading to New York State initial certification for teaching in grades K–12. The plan of study includes teacher preparation and the study of teaching in the gymnasium and/or the health classroom (120 credits).
Students may specialize as coaches, teachers, and adapted physical educators. A teaching practicum and field experience are required.
In addition to meeting the University's General Education requirements, students in this program must complete:
- 33 credits of Theoretical Foundations
- 14 credits of Physical Education Methodology
- 18 credits of Education Core sequence
- 8 credits in Biology.
Health certification may be obtained with additional health content courses.
Students are required to pass the LAST, ATSW, and CST before they can begin student teaching.
