The Master of Arts in Physical Education with an emphasis on sport management prepares students for management roles in academic or professional sports. With the assistance of an adviser, graduate students tailor the sport management and business electives to target their desirable career goals.
Courses enhance the learning experiences by introducing individuals to an array of contemporary sport practitioner strategies, issues, and knowledge base. With their extensive experience in a wide range of areas relating to sport industry, the faculty is able to offer students the additional perspective of firsthand knowledge.
The sport management program is designed to enable students to:
- plan a sport management career
- network in the field of sport management
- become familiar with sports marketing, public relations, mass media, and technology
- gain proficiency in market analysis, budget preparation, and business management
- develop public speaking skills
- conduct formal research
- enhance career placement
The plan of study for this 36-credit program combines core courses with electives in sport management and business and a required internship.

Students are required to serve an internship with a sports management company, professional team, sports marketing firm, or school administration for a minimum of 200 hours. Acceptance of their internship application is contingent upon a satisfactory GPA and approval by a faculty committee.
Past internships include working with the NBA, NFL, Madison Square Garden, Nassau Coliseum, NY Power NY Islanders, Women Sports Foundation, Disney Corporation, minor league baseball team, NASCAR, sports marketing and promotion firms, and school and college athletic departments.
