Limited to honors selection and used to complement the student's course of study.

1. Demonstration of academic proficiency - "B" average or special permission of the Department.
2. Student will select three (3) members for Independent Study Committee in consultation with the Department Chairman:
   • one project adviser
   • two committee evaluators depending upon area of specialization.
3. Independent study will include submittal of the study to the faculty for approval.
4. Time table steps for procedure:
   1. Application to be submitted two weeks before registration to:
      • project adviser
      • two project evaluators
      • department chair.
        
        MUST INCLUDE:
      • name and date
      • proposed title
      • brief statement or outline of study including relevancy to total degree objective
      • signature of major adviser for academic approval
      • signature of project adviser indicating consent to be project adviser
      • signature of department chair.
   2. Total faculty may have input to independent studies. Any objections to a particular studymust be submitted in writing to the project adviser and the department chair.
   3. Registration permitted only with approval of project adviser and department chair.
   4. Project adviser will develop appropriate adviser and department chair.
5. An initial meeting of the Independent Study Committee will approve schedule of study plan.
6. Copies of the initial proposal must be submitted to the committee.
7. A scheduled and announced final meeting of the Independent Study Committee with invitation to other faculty must be held prior to final submittal of the Independent Study.
8. Committee must pass on a final submittal of the Independent Study.
   Grading: responsibility of project adviser in consultation with evaluators – Pass/Fail or letter grade, to be determined by student at time of registration.
