Alice Brown Early Learning Center
Laura Ludlam, Director
The Early Learning Center is located at Adelphi’s Garden City campus, and operates with support from the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education. The center offers full- and part-time childcare and education for children between the ages of 18 months and five years.
Adult Fitness Program
The Adult Fitness Program promotes exercise as preventative medicine, and is sponsored by the Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness Institute.
The Literacy Center
Adelphi’s Literacy Center gives candidates in the Master of Science in Literacy Education and the Advanced Certificate in Literacy Education programs an opportunity to do literacy work with students on campus and in neighboring public schools.
Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders
The Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders is an advanced clinical facility that immerses speech and audiology students in a range of research and clinical experiences, including developing and implementing therapy programs. The Center features both a speech and hearing laboratory and a community outreach program.
This professional organization promotes the exchange of ideas in teaching and research among health educators. Founded by Adelphi faculty, it also sponsors the annual Partnerships in Health Conference.
The Nassau County School Wellness Coalition
This coalition was formed to support school districts in reevaluating or forming local wellness policies mandated by the WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004. School districts who participate in the coalition receive assistance in accessing resources, identifying grant money for program implementation, and performing school assessments, as well as formal recognition.
Obesity Clinic with Winthrop University Hospital
The department is currently working with Winthrop University Hospital on a joint medical consultation and activity program. Students in exercise science have an opportunity to participate in this program.
Henry Viscardi School
Students in teaching have an opportunity to do fieldwork and are assigned children to work with at this specialized school for the physically disabled.
Make a Splash Program
Department faculty are working with Hempstead High School on a joint grant with the Red Cross, Hempstead Schools, and Adelphi. The intent is to prepare lifeguards and to implement the national TPSR skills (teaching for personal and social responsibility) through a swim program. Adelphi students have an opportunity to participate in the training program.
