Financial Aid and Billing Information For 5th Year Step Students
As a graduate student in the STEP program, you will be registering for classes during the summer, fall, and spring semesters to complete your program in five years. To be eligible for financial aid for these final three semesters you must do the following:
  1. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form must be completed as soon as possible after January 1 of your senior year to receive aid in your graduate year. As a graduate student you are considered independent. Therefore, you will enter only your financial information. Any request for additional information or the submission of additional paperwork should be done as quickly as possible to avoid delays in the receipt of your financial aid.

  2. As a graduate student, your eligibility for the Federal Stafford Loan program increases to a maximum of $18,500 per year. There are no federal or university-based grants for graduates, and limited state grants. To receive a New York State TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) Award, you must complete and submit the Express TAP Application to HESC (Higher Education Services Corp.) and enroll for 12 credits per semester.

  3. If you received a scholarship upon admission, your scholarship will continue as long as you meet the minimum requirements for renewal. The maximum amount you may receive in scholarship is one-half of tuition. Scholarships will be applied only to fall and spring semesters and you must enroll for a minimum of 12 credits in each semester.

  4. If you did not receive a scholarship upon admission as an undergraduate, but you have completed a minimum of 56 credits at Adelphi with a grade point average of at least 3.3, and enroll for at least 12 credits per semester, you will receive a STEP Merit Award of $3,000 for your final year, divided evenly between the fall and spring semesters.

  5. If you would like to use Stafford Loan funds to help pay for the summer semester, you must complete the "STEP Summer Loan Request" form and submit it to the Office of Student Financial Services. The maximum amount that you are entitled to will be based on the cost of the number of credits you take.

  6. You must complete a Master Promissory Note and Entrance Interview before the summer semester begins to receive the loan funds, unless you met this requirement as an undergraduate.

  7. Billing for these final three semesters will follow the University's regular schedule.

  8. If you have questions, the Office of Student Financial Services is available for consultation in person or by phone 516.877.3080 during regular business hours. They may also be reached by email at financialservices@adelphi.edu.
