New York State Teacher Certification Requirements
- Science
A 4-credit laboratory science course.
- Foreign Language (American Sign Language is acceptable)
- Two semesters at Level I and II (e.g. Spanish I and II - 6 credits)
or
- Two different languages (e.g. Spanish I and American Sign Language I - 6 credits)
or
- One semester of Level III or above (e.g. Spanish III or above - 3 credits)
or
- Requirement can be waived with a passing grade on High School Regents.

Assessment Points
Assessment Point 1: Admissions: INDUCTION
- High School GPA > 3.0
- High School SAT > 1000
- Adelphi GPA > 2.75
Assessment Point 2: Knowledge and Disposition: EXPLORATION
To be included in Portfolio:
- Philosophy of Education (from 0836-307)
- Autobiography (from 0836-304)
- Assessment Case Study (from 0836-306)
Assessment Point 3: Field Performance Benchmarks: SYNTHESIS
Field performance benchmarks will be required in all methods courses. Students will choose a minimum of two samples each of a lesson plan, a unit of study, and performance evaluation.
To be included in Portfolio:
- Two Lesson Plans
- Two Units of Study
- Two Performance Evaluations
- Capstone and Reflective Letter (from 0807-825)
To be included in student's file:
- Passing score on:
- L.A.S.T.
- ATS-W
- C.S.T.
All exams must be passed prior to internship or student teaching.
Assessment Point 4: Student Teaching Benchmarks: REFLECTIVE PRACTICE
To be included in Portfolio:
- Pathwise Performance Criteria
To be included in student's file:
- Clearance for Graduation
- Recommendation to SED
