Educational Leadership & Technology | Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Technology Plan of Study

Note: Documentation of a minimum of three years full-time work as a teacher or other professional in a K–12 setting is required for admission.

Completion of the degree and advanced certificate program fulfills the requirements for the New York State School Administration and Supervision (SAS) Certificate as well as the new School Building Leader license (effective 2006). Upon completion of all program requirements, students file for the SAS or NYS certification through the Office of the University Registrar, Levermore Hall.

Admissions Requirements
  • Formal application and short essay.
  • Undergraduate degree (Master's degree).
  • Transcripts are to be filed with the Office of Graduate Admissions, Garden City Campus.
  • Three years full-time teaching experience in a K-12 setting -or- three years full-time work experience in a school pupil personnel service profession, such as guidance counseling or school psychology. The three years of full-time work experience must be completed prior to entering the program.
  • Verification letter(s) documenting three years of full-time teaching/work experience in a school setting. Students will not be allowed to register for a course unless this letter is submitted and approval received to register from the School of Education. Work experience may be in one or several schools; if more than one school is involved, then letters from each school will be required to verify completion of the three years of teaching/work experience in a school setting. Letter(s) must be on official school/district letterhead and signed by designated school/district official.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Letters may be secured from colleagues, faculty, or a person that can attest to the applicant's skills and qualifications for graduate level work.
