Pre-service Track

Please Note: The Pre-service Track is only open to candidates with no prior classroom teaching certificates.

Important Notes and Deadlines
  • Student Teaching/Practicum Deadlines: Application (obtained from Office of School and Community Partnerships or Education Office in Manhattan) is due by Dec. 1 for fall/summer placements; by March 1 for spring placements.

  • Clinical experience (practicum with observation by a faculty supervisor) is required of all candidates and will not be waived.

  • Degrees are conferred three times per year: May, August and January. Apply as follows:
    • For May: by last Friday in October
    • For August: by second Friday in June
    • For January: by first Friday in September

  • All candidates must apply for NYS certification in their last semester. Applications may be obtained in the Office of the Registrar or the Education Office (either campus). The applications are sent to the State through Adelphi.

  • Candidates should not apply for initial certification in special education on their own (prior to program completion). Candidates who are awarded initial certification in special education prior to program completion will have additional (credit) requirements.
