Licensure and Certification| ASHA Licensure and Certification

It is the student's responsibility to apply for New York State licensure and for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Additional course work in math and in the biological, physical, and social/behavioral sciences is required for ASHA certification.

New York State Licensure Tutorial
Getting Licensed and Registered and Practicing Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in New York State (PDF 76KB)
To learn more about the requirements for New York State licensure as a speech-language pathologist or audiologist, students should take this tutorial.

In addition to providing information on the necessary credentials, it includes instructions that will help to expedite the registration process.

Praxis Examination
Students must take the Praxis examination in their area of concentration in order to obtain ASHA certification and New York State licensure. This national examination in speech-language pathology or audiology assesses an applicant’s mastery of academic and clinical applications. This is a multiple choice exam. The current passing score is 600.

Clinical Fellowship
Clinical Fellowship is a supervised, professional clinical experience. Students must secure their own placement.
