ELY 521: Literature For Young Adults 3 credits This course is designed to engage students in a study of the literature of interest to adolescents or young adults. The integration of literature across disciplines can be greatly enhanced when teachers are knowledgeable about historical and current trends in young adult literature as well as the literary theories that can serve as lenses for examining such texts. Literary theory and pedagogy will inform all aspects of our study of literature and related media. Students will explore ways to encourage young people in middle and secondary schools to read critically and appreciate a variety of literary works. The integration of literature into all content areas will be emphasized.
