Adelphi University Alice Hoffman Young Writers Retreat
This summer the Adelphi University Ruth S. Ammon School of Education, in partnership with best-selling author and Adelphi graduate, Alice Hoffman '73, will again offer the Adelphi University Alice Hoffman Young Writers Retreat. This annual program is an intensive writing workshop where high school students and their teachers can experience the power of arts-based learning.

Adult Fitness Program
Sponsored by the Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness Institute, the Adult Fitness Program promotes exercise as preventive medicine. The Program provides individualized evaluations and exercise programs in an effort to guide participants toward lifetime maintenance of physical fitness and health.

The Literacy Center
Adelphi's Literacy Center provides candidates in the Master's in Literacy and the Advanced Certificate in Literacy programs with the opportunity to work with students on campus and in neighboring public schools. Under faculty supervision, candidates will assess and instruct students from the community who are experiencing literacy difficulties. One or two semesters of practicum are required for New York State certification as a Literacy Specialist depending on the area of certification sought.

Early Learning Center
Located on Adelphi's Garden City campus, the Early Learning Center provides daytime child care services, Monday through Friday, to children three through five years of age, while students attend classes.
The Early Learning Center has been providing part- and full-day programs for pre-schoolers for more than 25 years. Graduate students in Adelphi's Schools of Education and Social Work, and the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies, participate in field experiences at the Center, enhancing their knowledge of child development and early childhood curriculum.

Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders
The Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders is an advanced clinical facility dedicated to education, research and therapeutic services. Undergraduate and graduate students participate in supervised programs to treat children and adults with speech, language and hearing disorders.
Student training emphasizes the application of current theory to clinical procedures. Adelphi's unique undergraduate program offers two semesters of supervised clinical assistance. Students enrolled in the M.S. degree program take part in a wide range of clinical activities, including diagnostic evaluations and both individual and group therapeutic intervention.
The Speech and Hearing Laboratory supports faculty and student research. The Center also features a hearing aid dispensary for amplification system selection and fitting.
Through the Center's Community Outreach Program, licensed professionals and students provide speech, language and hearing screenings at libraries, senior centers, and preschools from a specially equipped van.
