Project BEST: Bilingual Educators in Science Technology
A joint partnership with the Roosevelt and Westbury school districts, this Race to the Top grant program provides funding to qualified bilingual candidates who want to be certified as a science educator with a bilingual extension.

For students in the Scholar Teacher Education Program (STEP) program, two scholarship programs are available:

STEP Graduate Scholarship
Students in STEP who received a university-based academic scholarship as undergraduates will receive an academic scholarship for their graduate year.

STEP students who were not eligible for a scholarship upon admission to the university as undergraduates will be eligible for a $3,000 Graduate STEP Merit Award in their fifth year if they meet the following criteria:

• entering the graduate year of the STEP program
• no previous scholarship from Adelphi
• 56 or more credits completed at Adelphi
• cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher

The Teachers of Mathematics Scholarship
This program provides financial support to mathematics majors who are pursuing a secondary teaching credential through STEP.

The Adelphi SEA Program
Adelphi’s SEA program is a National Science Foundation NOYCE Scholarship for undergraduate and graduate students interested in science education.

Communication Sciences and Disorders

The New York City Department of Education has two scholarship programs that Communications Sciences and Disorders students may be interested in:

Students Aiming for NYS Certification as Teachers of Students with Speech-Language Disabilities
This program reimburses tuition (57 to 67 credits, including Child Development, Schools and Society, Health Prep, and SPH561). In exchange, you must work double the number of years for NYC as you spent in school. For more information, visit teachny.com and click on “scholarships, incentives, and special programs.”

Bilingual Extension to the Teachers of Students with Speech-Language Disabilities
The Intensive Teacher Institute (ITI) in Bilingual ESL and Special Education is a tuition assistance program. You need school district support or superintendent signature to apply. The program supports preschool personnel as well. For more information, contact ITI at 631.286.6551.

Health Studies, Physical Education, and Human Performance Sciences

Dorothea Dietz Memorial Scholarship

Undergraduate students financial assistance

Graduate assistantships
Assistantships are offered for exercise science. Each student works in our cardiac rehabilitation program, in our adult fitness program, and as a research assistant in the lab. For further information, contact Dr. Robert Otto at 516.877.4276 or otto@adelphi.edu.
