Dr. Ron S. Feingold |
Ronald S. Feingold was appointed dean for Adelphi University Ruth S. Ammon School of Education in spring 2005 and continues to serve as chair of the Department of Health Studies, Physical Education, and Human Performance Science, a position he has held since 1974. A world-renowned expert on physical education, he has spearheaded leading national and international professional organizations and was a lead writer for the New York State Education Department's current standards in health and physical education.
As president of the Association Internationale des Ecoles Superieures d'Education Physique (AIESEP) and executive board member of the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), he helped establish a World Summit on Physical Activity for children held in Berlin in 1999 and was on the organizing committee for the Pre-Olympic Congress in Greece. In 2003, he met with representatives from over 100 countries in Paris at the UNESCO headquarters as a participant in the World Summit on The Value of Sport for Children.
Dr. Feingold continues to be active at the national level as well. He is a principal investigator assessing the effectiveness of Physical Best, a national fitness education curriculum, and is spearheading a national recognition program connecting schools to the community. He is a member and past president of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD); the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (NYSAHPERD); and the National Association for Physical Education in Higher Education (NAPEHE). He has been a member of the Long Island Board of the American Heart Association for more than 25 years and previously served as its chair and is a founding member of the North American Society for Leadership in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Complementing his professional involvement, Dr. Feingold and his faculty are heavily involved in community outreach initiatives, including working with Long Island's Port Washington Elementary Schools to develop a recess program that focuses on cooperative games and research skills and presenting to over 30 Little League coaches from Queens District 27 on the value of sport for children. Dr. Feingold also met with over 100 school districts across New York State and Long Island on the implementation of the New York State Teaching Standards in Health and Physical Education, then called the Compact for Learning.
Sought after for his expertise, Dr. Feingold has given over 70 presentations across the globe and has produced over 30 publications and six monographs. Among his most prestigious speaking engagements have been the Cagigal Lecture, the highest AIESEP honor; the Sargent Lecture, the highest NAPEHE honor; the Margaret Brown Lecture for the New Jersey Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Association; and the Donna Mae Miller Humanities Lecture at the University of Arizona.
He has received the highest honors from the American Heart Association on two occasions and has been recognized by AAHPERD, NAPEHE, NYSAHPERD, the Federation Internationale Physique, and the Eastern District Association of AAHPERD. A long-standing member of the New York Academy of Science, he is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, and Leaders in Education. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico, an M.Ed. from the University of Arizona, and a B.S. from the University of Illinois.
