E-Portfolio Requirements Physical Education
(Undergraduate)

Overview

Throughout the three phases, candidates submit required artifacts and optional artifacts together with comments reflecting the relationship of the artifact to the standards expected of a certified teacher. The artifacts and reflections demonstrate each candidate’s level of achievement of the NCATE/NASPE Beginning Teacher Standards, and their understanding of NASPE Content Standards for Physical Education and the New York State Learning Standards related to Physical Education. Documents also reflect the Core Values of the Adelphi Ruth S. Ammon School of Education.

I. The Exploration Phase
In this phase candidates develop content knowledge about physical activities, exercise and skill development. Candidates also study schooling and social forces affecting students, their families and opportunities for lifetime physical activity. Assessment in this phase is embedded in introductory professional coursework.

II. The Synthesis Phase
This phase includes understanding teaching and various approaches for providing safe and positive learning environments and assessments for diverse students and teaching settings. Candidates practice planning, communicating, instruction, assessment, reflection and collaboration, culminating in several comprehensive field-based assignments.

III. The Reflective Practice Phase
This phase includes student teaching and the final professional seminar, providing opportunities for assessment of authentic teaching and professional collaboration, as well as planning professional development in the future.
