The health education electronic portfolio serves two purposes. The first purpose is to collect work that illustrates efforts, progress, and achievement over time. The second purpose is to provide students a venue for a reflective process regarding their development and progress that have been made in the program over time. Electronic portfolios also serve personal purposes. It can be used as a rich supplement to the students’ resume, which shows potential employers about their work and educational background. Or it can also be used as a personal record of the students’ educational experience.
I. The Exploration Phase
There are four courses in the exploration phase of the M.A, in School Health Education program. They are listed below. The electronic portfolio will be introduced in HED 602: Research and Technology in Health Education. As students move on to the next three courses, they are required to complete the exploration benchmarks of their e-portfolio by writing reflections and uploading a copy of their benchmark assignments.

II. The Synthesis Phase
The Synthesis Phase of the program consists of four higher level courses which address teaching methods and health promotion programs. Students are expected to reflect on their experiences regarding how the benchmark requirements help them achieve certain Ruth S. Ammon School of Education core values and Health Education standards and update their e-portfolio.

III. The Reflective Practice Phase
The last phase in the program is the Reflective Practice phase. This includes culminating courses where students are given the opportunity to apply what they have learned through an internship, student teaching and culminating projects in the context of the school health program. Students are expected to write their reflections and upload the remaining benchmark assignment artifacts indicated below. The completed e-portfolio is submitted for review in the culminating course of the program: HED 627: School Health Programs and Policies.
