E-Portfolio Requirements Early Childhood Advance
Certificate Program

Overview

The portfolio will be organized into three sections: Induction, Exploration and Synthesis and Reflection.  The focus is on a development of a "process" portfolio that demonstrates the teacher candidate's growth in the profession over their time in the program.  Each candidate will keep an electronic portfolio on-line and a copy on a personal flash drive, CD or DVD.

Portfolio documentation begins with the Admissions File. Subsequently, as the students begin the program of study, they will be accumulating different products over the course of the program of study. These products will be developed in several courses as "Benchmarks"

The Admission's File is the First Assessment Point. You will not need to add products to the portfolio. Only the Admission's Essay is part of this section.

Exploration & Synthesis is the Assessment Point No. 2 for the Advanced Certificate and will occur after you have completed the Exploration and Synthesis Block (17 credits). The following benchmarks should be included in the portfolio at this point:
  1. Assessment Case Study (from EYC 814-660)
  2. Classroom Management Project (from Field Experience and Classroom Management course EYC 0814-801)
  3. Childhood Development Course grade (Prerequisite)
  4. Two Thematic Units of Study (from own current classroom)
  5. Dispositions Rubric (completed by Field Experience supervisor)
    • Students need to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
    • Passing score on the CST.
The Transition Assessment will be done as part of EYC 0814-801. Field Experiences and Classroom Management course.

Reflection is the final portfolio checkpoint and it occurs during the Applied Practicum. Adelphi University field supervisor use an assessment system (Pathwise Performance Criteria) to evaluate you on essential teaching skills. These evaluations, your Reflective Narrative, and a Dispositions Rubric will be included in the portfolio
